Dear Topickers,

Mason called Jon this afternoon, informing  him that Barbara's dear mother had just passed away.  She had reached the ripe age of 100 some months ago and still had all her faculties, although not all desired mobility.

Fortunately Mason and Barbara had made it to Seattle on time  to be with her at the end, which we all hope was peaceful.

John,

You forgot the most ilmportant announcement of all-- Mine.   Jon and I are now grandparents of a dozen children!!!

Cliff, our lawyer son and his wife in Houston, the ones with 4 lovely children of their own, have adopted a little black baby boy, naming him Jeremiah John and indicating that their next adoptee will probably be a minority also, but probably a girl.  They want to do something good for the world--  too many unwanted children, they say.  How am I ever going to remember all these children's birthdays, much less shop for gifts for them?!!!

Belinda

PS  Jon's company makes the hardware to automate interior window coverings like drapes and roller shades, but not shutters.  Just  so's you knows.

Congratulations Barbara and Cliff

Present: Nancy and George Banitch, Tracy and Jay Bell, Barbara and Mason Brown, Ronit and Shlomo Firman, Polly and Ray Gilbert, Linda and Herb Gomberg, Rona and Ed Goodman (without a beard), Pauline and Len Gravier, Maya and Sid Harris, Rita Harvey, Dot and Sel Heller, Peggy and Rik Heller, Barbara and Cliff Miercort, Terry and John Norris, Joyce Patton, Pat Shaughnessy, Josh Willson, Pat and John Willson, Ann and David Ouzts, Belinda and Jon Vrielink and Christy Bednar and Fred Wendorf.

The following guests were introduced: Ellen Sodrquist and her husband Frank Bergman, guests of Rita Harvey; Ron Schwartz, son of Pat Shaughnessy; and Khristina and Joe Taherzadeh, guests of Tracy and Jay Bell. The Taherzadehs expressed interest in joining after their 2nd visit which will be in May.

Announcements : Mason Brown informed us that BIG CITY will be opening in the country and will be ready for inspection in April. Please call Mason (972)243-5820 for details and have your shovel ready.

Sid Harris announced that Jon Vrielink is making curtains for Barbara Brown. The “Curtains” turned out to be his electric shutters.

The Presentation by John Norris – Terry introduced John but said she felt intimidated by Rona Goodman’s colorful introductions in the past.  Nevertheless, her introduction of John and his involvement with the Nature Conservancy was superb.  John then gave his presentation about the US/Mexican border FENCE which is in the process of being built along the border of Texas and other states which border Mexico. How the FENCE is affecting endangered species, in some cases splitting same species in two limiting healthy breeding with larger choices, was part of the talk.  It’s affect on people crossing the border both legally and illegally was also discussed. The idea that we can get along without the workers who sneak into this country is ridiculous as is the ability of employers to know if they are being shown legal or forged Social Security documents. The talk gave way to considerable comments, and questions all ably handled by John Norris.

The next meeting on April 4th will be hosted by Patricia and John Willson.  It will be held at Capriccio Ristorante, 5302 Alpha Rd. (This is located between Noel and Dallas Parkway and going West on Alpha is the last place you can turn North before getting to Dallas Parkway.  If you miss it, you can also go North on Dallas Parkway and take the first right.  It is next to Maximo’s Margarita Restaurant and in the same area as Go Fish), Village on the Green. The phone number is (972)991-3939 in case you get lost. The meeting will begin at 7 PM and there is complimentary valet parking available as well as self parking in the garage. Please advise Pat and John at [email protected] or leave a message at (972) 233 8560 regarding your attending or not.

Respectfully submitted
